Amidst an economic downfall, it is left for the fittest and flexible to survive the voodoo economy that characterizes Zimbabwe as of now. In that regard, it is seemingly absolute ignorance waking up in the morning anticipating to scoop an eight to five routine hoping to make ends meet. The wise and clever youths of our time are called to turn to the innovative side of human make up and utilize any available opportunity. Be it farming, sewing, software development, food processing and so forth. Today on Open Chat we are joined by Mary Bev Kawaza (BEV), the founder and producer of the Graca drinks.
[O.C] Hello Bev and thank you for joining us.
[BEV] Hi, thank you too for hosting me.
[O.C] So tell us, who is Bev?
[BEV] Bev is a young girl from Mberengwa. She grew up in the dusty streets of Chakari Mine. Comes from a lovely family of two. Currently she stayin in Harare.
[O.C] That's quite a transition, moving from place to place. So what inspired you to make your first drink?
[BEV] It was my cousin who inspired me (laughs). She always loves to drink water with colorant; she says water being colorless to her doesn't make it attractive to drink. So from there came this beautiful idea of Graca.
[O.C] (Laughs) that's funny. So it's true what they say, necessity is the mother of invention.
[BEV] That's right for sure
[O.C] Is there any secret in your recipe?
[BEV] (Laughs) Yes! Whenever I am making these drinks I always pray, thanking the Lord for the Grace to make this juice. Hence the name, Graca.
[O.C] Wow, Grace has unlocked the closed door. Have there been any challenges so far?
[BEV] Yeah, like where I buy the ingredients. They only accept US Dollars and with the current situation it's quite difficult to them
[O.C] But still you managed right?
[BEV] Yes, by God's grace. #Graca
[O.C] Love that #Graca. Any plans to expand your project? Where do you see Graca in a year's time?
[BEV] (Laughs) Like the sound of the name, by God's grace in a year's time I should be able to supply throughout the Zimbabwe.
[O.C] That's the spirit. I really love your enthusiasm, you'll really go far by God's grace.
[BEV] Amen! Thank you so much.
[O.C] Any words of inspiration to other youths out there who can learn from your project
[BEV] Sure, especially to girls. Ladies, we can
do this believe you
me. There is this other picture which inspired me a lot. It says, "Never give up, at one point Coca Cola sold 25 bottles
in its first year of production. See where it is now." Especially in Zimbabwe, drinking coke is now golden. So ladies, let's empower ourselves. Don't be discouraged by the talk of "a lot of people are doing the same thing," lets work
before dawn comes
[O.C] Oh, that's really deep and true. Thank you very much for your time, wish you all the best in business
